4TH ANNUAL PAN-ASIAN/PACIFIC ARTS $ CULTURAL FESTIVAL
This year The Museum’s 4th Annual Pan-Asian/Pacific Arts & Cultural Festival being held on Sunday, May 18 from 11:00 am to 5:00. It is located on The Museum grounds at 18904 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, California 91324, at the corner of Nordhoff Street and Wilbur Avenue. Our festival highlights will include vendors’ booths, cultural performers, food trucks, demonstrations, onstage entertainment, DCA-sponsored exhibits, children’s art workshops and the opportunity to visit the Museum and its exhibits. Museum sponsors include Rydell Chevrolet and Starbucks (with free teas for everyone). Festival entry and parking are free.
Some scheduled cultural festival performing artists include:
- SFV Japanese American Community Center Meiji Ondo Group
- Kalakeke Pacific Island Dance Company
- Vovinam Lac Hong (Vietnamese Lion Dance and martial arts)
- Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute
- Bollywood Beyondancing Group
- Musical Duo of Kevin Sasaki and Julie Gile
TIMELINE UNVEILING EVENT DETAILS:
Of special significance during this Festival is the unveiling of The Museum’s Phase II panels (1900 to 1950) of its updated, inclusive “Historic Timeline of the San Fernando Valley.” With support of a grant from the L.A. Department of Cultural Affairs, The Museum has been updating and creating a new Valley timeline and mural for outside viewing which now includes significant San Fernando Valley historic dates of underserved communities that have not been included in Valley timelines before
The Timeline Phase II unveiling event will be at 2:00 pm on The Museum grounds. Please feel free to invite anyone interested in Valley history to come and be part of this event and the Q&A that follows. Speakers will include the timeline's mural artists - Beverly Laxa, Omar Noorzay and Freba Mehman Noorzay and The Museum's Treasurer/Project Timeline Director Jackie Langa with a possible surprise historian. All festival visitors are welcome to the Timeline Phase II Unveiling event as well as the Timeline Phase II Unveiling event visitors are welcome to join in the festival activities around them.
